Why Gamers Should Cook IRL

Why should gamers learn to cook? If you are like me and most other gamers your diet probably consists of a great deal of “unhealthy” fast food, ramen noodles, pizza or those fish tacos from the movie theater that tasted so good but left you in the bathroom the rest of the night…

For that reason alone you just might vow to never eat fish tacos again and possibly even start cooking a meal or two a week for yourself or friends/family. For about the past ten years I have made it a point to start cooking more at home and it has been one of the best decisions I've made for myself. Not only do you get a more healthy, delicious meal but also the prestige and accomplishment of cooking by yourself. How better to impress friends or a date than to cook them a meal you made yourself? Well unless you don’t have a date to cook for… then you should check out my article on Finding Love as a Gamer. Also, we all have to eat and eating can get really expensive, right? So cooking at home can actually save you some money for the next new game that comes out. Did I mention it can be much healthier to cook at home as well?

So now that you have decided to start cooking, what in the world are you going to create? If you want some quick and simple ideas to start out on, check out my article on Quick Dinner Ideas for Gamers. However, if you want to cook something a little more fancy and healthy I highly recommend one of the latest tools I have added to my arsenal, “World of Warcraft®: The Official Cookbook” by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel. This book is awesome! We actually made our Thanksgiving turkey using the recipe in this book and I swear it was the best turkey I have ever had, minus the part where I forgot to take out the bag of junk that’s hidden inside the turkey… rookie mistake. There are a ton of recipes in this book but some of our favorites to cook are Dragon Breath Chili, Chicken and Dumplings, Bean Soup and of course all of the cocktails and drinks. Oh and that reminds me nearly all of the recipes seem to have some form of alcohol in them… so how can they not be delicious! Every recipe we have tried were very well laid out and easy to follow so no worries about getting overwhelmed making them, so I highly recommend giving this book a try.

Even if you have never cooked before or have been dabbling in it for years, I highly recommend starting a routine in making at least one or two meals a week on your own. It’s way easier and more fun than leveling cooking skill on any MMO and you get to eat the rewards, all while saving time and money in the long run.
